Cambodian and Japanese Commerce Ministers Strengthen Economic Ties

Phnom Penh: Cambodian Minister of Commerce, Mrs. CHAM Nimul, held a bilateral meeting with Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, SAITO Ken, to foster friendship and enhance economic and trade relations between the two nations.

The meeting, which took place in Tokyo, saw SAITO Ken warmly welcome Minister CHAM Nimul to Japan on the occasion of the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit, and congratulate her on her appointment as Cambodia's Minister of Commerce.

In response, Minister CHAM Nimul expressed her gratitude to SAITO Ken for taking the time from his busy schedule to meet with her and the Ministry of Commerce's delegation.

Both parties acknowledged the significant progress in bilateral trade between Japan and Cambodia. They discussed strategies and best practices to further strengthen and promote business activities and bilateral trade, with a particular focus on implementing the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) and the RCEP Agreement.

Minister CHAM Nimul emphasized the importance of Japanese private sector engagement in Cambodia's economic development, particularly in employment creation and diversifying trade and industry sectors. She encouraged Japanese businesses to invest in high-value-added sectors prioritized by the Royal Government of Cambodia, including agriculture, agro-processing, garments, tourism, creative industries, research and development, transport, technology, financial services, education services, and the establishment of special economic zones (SEZs) and industrial parks.
